Check the connection before the checkout.

Read this first

A connector that fits isn’t the whole story.

Three checks can help you avoid buying an accessory your setup cannot use.

Will the microphone work too?

A headset extension needs to carry microphone audio as well as headphone audio. Look for a four-pole TRRS extension when extending a compatible combined headset jack. A headphone-only extension may leave the mic disconnected.

Does your PC have separate audio jacks?

A PC with separate headphone and microphone sockets generally needs a compatible headset splitter for a single combined headset plug. Check the PC manual and the adapter's wiring specification before buying.

Is the accessory supported by your console?

Check the exact console generation and the manufacturer's compatibility list. USB, Bluetooth and wireless dongles are different connection methods; matching the connector alone does not confirm support.

Shop with a plan

Buy what solves the problem.

01 / Identify

Name the issue.

Short cable? Uncomfortable headset? Start with the problem instead of a list of upgrades.

02 / Check

Confirm the match.

Read the model number, connection type, dimensions and return terms on the retailer's listing.

03 / Compare

Look at the total.

Compare delivery costs and what is included. Prices and availability can change at the retailer.
